The irony is killing me

dearest MIL,

i find it ironic that "daddy and i just can't stand to sit on a plane for 2 1/2 hours to come visit. it's just hard on us" , but apparently, daddy and i (meaning FIL and MIL) can sit in a car and drive 11 hours to alabama for a 50th high school reunion. and daddy and i can also sit in a car and drive 12 hours to north carolina to see the rhododendrons (sp?) bloom. but daddy and i CANNOT sit 2 1/2 hours on a plane to see our grandchildren. oh, we couldn't possibly. because sitting on a plane is MUCH MUCH harder than taking a long driving trip.

glad to see you have your priorities. and i think i will be saying that in our next conversation.

(oh, and YES, i did say they're from alabama. it explains a lot, actually. like the whole racist thing. but that's another post.)

wow. That's a whole different level of selfishness. I would so call them out on it, too.

If I see them here checking out the rhodedendrums, I'll poke them in the eye for ya.

Mine wouldn't drive an hour to see our child, but will be flying back and forth to windy city to see the blessed one, little BO, when it arrives.

I hate in-laws.

no, cost isn't any issue at all here. not that i really WANT them to visit, but it's the excuses that make me so mad. you KNOW i believe that how you really feel is played out by your actions. so obviously, they don't miss their grandchildren that much.

Umm...not sure what you mean on the race thing, unless you're referring to some of their prior acrions. I'm southern and certainly wouldn't make any of the crappy excuses that your out-laws have. Mine are the exact same way. They'll drive 18 hours to see their other children and grandchildren, but they won't drive the 10 it would take to see us. Then when we get together for MY family get-togethers, they give us crap about never coming to see them. Err!!

I hate the in-laws!!

paula--

i am referring to MANY past incidences of specific racism uttered from my PILs mouths. when i make the alabama reference, i am referring to the small, rural part of alabama they are both from. i've been there, and you pretty much wouldn't even know the civil war happened there. i'm not talking about the south in general. that comment was based on actual words and actions by them and their alabama relatives.
