Why lie

Dear MIL,
Why lie? You have told us for weeks that you were mailing boxes for the girls with some summer clothes in it and finally returning the stuff that we left there A YEAR AGO. So why did you call 10 days ago and tell your son that they were shipped when we learned yesterday that you hid them at your SIL's? What was the point in lying? Had we known this we would have gone out and bought the stuff that we left there for Aiden so that we could have it for Fletcher. But since you told us that you had sent it, we didn't bother. And now it looks like your second grandchild will be making an early entrance into the world and we have no car seat for him. Again I ask, why lie?

UGH!

The answer is (of course) "Because that's what mildews do best"

Well, that's no big deal, because according to my FIL "It's ridiculous. All our kids were just fine without car seats, and it's ridiculous that they won't let you leave the hospital without one." Oooo-kaaay.

I hope you get shopping in time.

because apparently lying is SO much easier than telling the truth...the hiding of clothes at another house being NO extra work of course.

I have several reasons why she would lie, but the #1 would be the same reason my MIL would - she was too damn lazy to do it in the first place and #2 - she was too stupid to know that we'd be on the lookout for the package.

OMG! My mom totally does that! It's awful. I now have to tell her not to inform the children directly that she "has something" for them, because they still believe her and will wait and wait for it. I usually say, "Oh, that will be a nice surprise for them!" LOL.

WHY? I think that when she SAYS she is going to mail it, she actually believes she will do it, and then it gets later and later and more and more awkward.
